Cleanway, manufactured by Tara Group of Pakistan, is a potent herbicide utilizing the dual-action power of Mesotrione and Atrazine. In the context of Pakistani agriculture, where weed competition significantly reduces crop yields, this formulation provides a robust solution for broad-leaf and grassy weed control.
Mode of Action
Mesotrione acts by inhibiting the HPPD enzyme, causing bleaching in susceptible weeds, while Atrazine functions as a photosystem II inhibitor. Together, they provide both contact and residual control, making it highly effective for pre- and early post-emergence application.
Regional Applicability
Given the high-pH, calcareous soils of Central and Southern Punjab, this herbicide is designed to remain effective across various soil textures. However, farmers must ensure adequate soil moisture for optimal absorption. In areas with low organic matter, the residual activity of Atrazine can be more pronounced; therefore, strict adherence to the 500ml per acre dosage is critical to avoid potential carry-over effects on sensitive rotational crops.
Application Best Practices
For maximum efficacy, ensure the spray equipment is calibrated correctly. Since most Pakistani soils suffer from micronutrient deficiencies, ensure that weed control is coupled with balanced fertilization (DAP/Zinc) to allow the crop to outcompete any remaining weeds. Always apply in calm weather conditions to ensure the herbicide reaches the target weed canopy effectively.
